University of Pennsylvania Gamification

Gamification

Institution: University of Pennsylvania (Coursera)

Date: September 2, 2012 - October 3, 2012

Bio: This course seeks to explore the rising concept of 'Gamification'; applying game like elements, and digital game design techniques to social and industrial challenges. It explores the mechanics, psychology, and pitfalls that make up Gamification. This course also included several interview discussions with CEO's and business professionals who are actively using these techniques.

Accomplishments: I have been following gamification for a long time; examining it from the perspective of new technologies, education, and game designers. I was curious to see how a course on this subject would be taught. Overall it was a good intro to the topic that hit the major points and treated it with respect. The final course project involved fully conceptualizing a gamified system for an online digital book seller, and then having our systems scrutinized by our peers.
